DEPARTMENT OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

CE 101 PRINCIPLES OF TEACHING 3 hours

This course considers the various means of teaching in the use of lecture, story telling, visual aids and discussion methods. The development of lesson preparation as well as the presentation of prepared lessons is examined. An examination of the methods of teaching by our Lord Jesus Christ is the topic of research for the semester.

CE 102 YOUTH MINISTRIES 1.5 hours

This is a survey of the challenge of the modern youth ministry. Many helpful suggestions and ideas will be entertained for teaching, leading and preparing youth for a productive Christian life.

CE 103 TEACHING AIDS 1.5 hours

An introduction to a variety of teaching aids available to lay-teachers and staff of the church. The preparation and utilization of flannel-graph, flash cards and other visual lessons will be studied.

CE 104 HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION

1.5 hours

The philosophy of noted historical educators is examined to observe strengths and weaknesses in results. The strengths of some of history’s greatest teachers will be examined. History points to the Lord Jesus Christ as the most effective teacher in His continuing influence on mankind.

CE 201 SUNDAY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION

1.5 hours

This course includes a comprehensive study of the Sunday School with emphasis on the management techniques that can be utilized by administrators. Methods for increasing attendance, preparing purposeful programs, organization, visitation, diagnosing problems, etc. will be considered.

CE 202 OBSERVATION & STUDENT ASSISTANCE

2 to 6 hours

The prospective teacher has an opportunity to assist and observe in a Christian School for a semester. This will give the student an excellent prospective for consideration in this part of the Lord’s service. The student will become familiar with the educational and spiritual needs of the young people of today. This is also valuable experience in being an observer of school and staff policies and procedures as well as staff relations and direction.

CE 205 INDEPENDENT STUDY 1.5 hours

A semester study of an assigned subject approved by the Department Head. The curriculum and assignments will be designed by that officer for the student.

CE 220 BIBLE TEACHING METHODS 1.5 hours

A survey of Biblical teaching. Outlining, illustrations, preparation, and various curriculum strategies will be covered.

CE 250 CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES 1.5 hours

A survey of various ministries available for children to prepare them for an enriched life of Christian service.

CE 301 CHRISTIAN SCHOOL SUPERVISION

3 hours

This course introduces the prospective Christian school worker to the methods and curriculum of Accelerated Christian Education. The student is required to attend an A. C. E. training workshop at the A.C.E. International Headquarters at Lewisville, Texas. The student will complete the necessary work and be awarded a Training Certificate by A.C.E.

CE 315 THE CHURCH AND CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS

1.5 hours

This course presents the Church role of educating children. The many aspects of staff support, curriculum, tuition and activities will be covered. Certain legal topics of interest for the Christian educator will be included.

CE 320 ADULT MINISTRIES 1.5 hours

This course covers the entire scope of teaching adults the Word of God. The professor will share experiences that have been effective in the past. The course may cover the various uses of media in teaching adults, lesson preparation and planning, and the use of study guides. The student will prepare and present lessons to gain practical experience.

CE 327 STAFF RELATIONS 1.5 hours

This course surveys all aspects of leading, loving, and serving with a ministry staff.

CE 330 SUNDAY SCHOOL METHODS 1.5 hours

This course covers a broad range of Sunday School methods from curriculum and aids to methods of campaigns, attendance, and structure.

CE 350 CHURCH WRITTEN RECORDS 1.5 hours

A semester study of the written records of the church. This course addresses everything from 941 tax forms to church histories, directories, and clerk records.

CE 400 STUDENT TEACHING 7.5 hours

The student will assist in teaching at an assigned school and will display the necessary characteristics of a productive staff member. The student will be reviewed by a staff member of TVBS & C, as wellas a supervisor from the participating school.

CE 405 TEACHING MUSIC BASICS 1.5 hours

An introduction to basic piano, scales, and musical jargon respective to teaching music.

CE 425 PRACTICAL TEACHING 1.5 hours

Emphasis on preparation and presentation of prepared lessons in various academic disciplines.

CE 450 BIOGRAPHICAL LITERATURE 3 hours

The study of four notable biographies of Christian servants.

CE 455 CHRISTIAN LITERATURE 3 hours

The study of four selected books from Christian literature.

CE 480-489 Special random course offerings

CE 505 GRADUATE INDEPENDENT STUDY 1.5 hours

Independent study for the graduate student under the direction of the Department Head.
